Frequently Asked Questions

We are happy to answer any questions not covered in our FAQ's below.

  • Typical viewing distance is an important consideration. Resolution is crisp when photos are viewed as a whole. To view the entire photo, the eyes will typically be a minimum distance from the photo’s surface, as follows:

    Size and Recommended Viewing Distance:

    Portrait (vertical photo, 3:4 ratio)

    9” x 12” 2 ft
    12” x 16” 3 ft
    18” x 24” 4 ft
    24” x 32” 5 ft
    36” x 48” 7 ft
    48” x 64” 9 ft

    Landscape (horizontal photo, 4:3)

    12” x 9” 2 ft
    16” x 12” 3 ft
    24” x 18” 4 ft
    32” x 24” 5 ft
    48” x 36” 7 ft
    64” x 48” 9 ft

In other words, if a 3 × 4 foot photo is viewed from a 12” distance (that is, only a corner is viewed), lines may look grainy.

However, when viewed from the above (typical) distances, lines will be sharp.
