Hibiscus flowers offer extraordinary variety. I was surprised to learn they’re part of the mallow family— along with the cocoa plant!
The 3-D effect of the elevated red veins are truly striking— like a monarch caterpillar, whose yellow stripes appear to pop off its “SCUBA suit” casing.
Likewise, the red vein pattern beautifully mimics a wind design of a monarch (which we used to raise in Californnia). The craggy two-tone green sepals and dew drops only amplify this 3-D effect.
This photo never fails to bring me joy.
